Hajj 2011

Eid Aldha: Sunday November 6, 2011-Dr. Imad Bayoun Khateeb

It is official Eid Aldha is on November 6, 2011. Prayer will be held in the Mosque and Takbeerat start at 7:00 AM. Due to daylight saving time change, please ensure that you change your clock the night before.

Arafa, of course, is on Saturday November 5, 2011. Fasting Arafa is highly recommended.

Eid Adha is the Eid of sacrificie. Please make sure you follow the Sunna of prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, as did our prophet, peace be upon him too. Dhu 'l-Hijja is a blessed month, please remember the needy everywhere and especially those in the Inland Empire and in other parts of the world such as the drought areas in Africa and give generously.

November 26, 2011 is the day of doubt for the new year 1433 Hijri. If you have a chance and weather permitting, please seek the moon for the new month and the new year on November 25, 2011 after sunset. More details will be posted in a later date regarding this event.

Dhu'l-Hijja 1432

October 27, 2011 will be the day of doubt for the start of the month of Dhu ’l-Ḥijja for the year 1432 from the migration of the prophet, peace be upon him, from Mecca to Medina. Depending on the moon sighting on the night of October 26, Eid Al Adha would be either Saturday November 5, 2011 or Sunday November 6, 2011.

According to U.S. Naval Observatory, the new moon will be born on October 26, at 1:56 PM Loma Linda, CA time. On that day, the sun will set at 6:02 PM here in Loma Linda, whereas the moon will set 5:52 PM. So we should not be able to see the new moon. For Thursday October 27 though, the sun will set at 6:01 pm whereas the moon will do the same at 6:42 PM, meaning it will be observable for 41 minutes, which is plenty of time to be seen. If this data is correct, of course pending actual sightings on Wednesday, Eid should be on Sunday November 6, 2011, the 10th day of Dhu ’l-Ḥijja.

If you have time to go just before sunset and observe the new blessed month this coming Wednesday, we ask that you take a camera with you to document your observations to share with the community. You can email your pictures to info@iccredlands.org. We emphasize that you observe safety when doing so. Try to find a safe place away from the clouds and any other obstacle. Of course you will be looking west toward the Sun when it is setting, which means you need protective gear for your eyes. You can continue your observations for few minutes past sunset, and if no moon is observed, please email us still as this constitutes a fact and valuable piece of information by itself.
